This TV ad is a parody based on the historical event, the battle between Musashi Miyamoto and the Yoshioka school at Ichijoji Sagarimatsu located in Kyoto prefecture. The visual images of this piece, such as scenery of a foggy forest and the intense sword fight, give an authentic atmosphere of Jidaigeki, or period drama, to the animation. Musashi Miyamoto is a Japanese swordsman of the early Edo period, and also the founder of the Hyoho Niten Ichiryu, or Nitenryu style of swordsmanship, which demonstrates the two-sword techniques. From 1961 to 1965, the pentalogy films “Miyamoto Musashi,” aka “Zen and Sword” directed by Tomu Uchida and starring Kinnosuke Yorozuya, had been released per year.
